Was auf den ersten Blick wie eine Kriegsberichterstattung klingt, ist in Wirklichkeit die Nachricht eines israelischen Vogelbeobachters an die Community: Der Vogelzug hat begonnen, der Golan wird von zehntausenden Zugvögeln auf ihrem Weg nach Afrika überflutet. In den kommenden Wochen wird sich für die Community alles nur um eine Sache drehen: Vögel.
Über die besondere Bedeutung Israels auf dem African-Eurasian Flyway, die Rolle des Militärs in der Vogelzugforschung, über die eigenartige Welt der Vogelbeobachtung und die Schwierigkeiten des Naturschutzes in einem Land in dem der Golan erst kürzlich tatsächlich in Flammen stand.

What at first glance sounds like a war report is actually an Israeli birdwatcher’s message to the community: The bird migration has begun, and the Golan is being flooded by tens of thousands of migratory birds on their way to Africa. In the coming weeks, everything for the community will revolve around one thing only: birds.
About Israel’s special significance on the African-Eurasian Flyway, the role of the military in bird migration research, the peculiar world of birdwatching, and the difficulties of nature conservation in a country where the Golan was recently actually ablaze.
